The Current State of Automated Testing in Healthcare

With successful implementation and correct use, automation is significantly benefiting healthcare providers.  Pharmacies are experiencing increased challenges due to budget cuts, medication shortages, and aging populations. By the introduction of Automation, these challenges can be addressed, while problems of limited storage space and limited time with customers can be solved.

Automated technology systems dubbed, “Pharmacy Robots”, streamline day-to-day pharmacy operations by stocking drugs and filling prescriptions with the use of robotics. By taking advantage of the automated robotics, pharmacists will only be required to provide a final check during the dispensing process; ultimately reducing the numbers of dispensing errors. NHS Trusts reported a 50% reduction in dispensing errors when implementing automated technology.

Aside from drug distribution, Automation is being adopted by medical professionals working on hospital floors. Automation is providing a “safety net” for floor nurses and discharge nurses. Automation assists in the flow of patients through trusts and discharge times. This allows the nurse’s focus to remain solely on the quality of care and the clinical services they are administering to patients.
